Hysterically Historical #7

Okay, okay. I left you hanging as things began to happen, but I need to talk just a bit about capturing history for an organization like ours. The most important thing to realize is that the folks who were busy creating Eastside Village were busy. They didn't have time to write their memoirs! Now, ten years later, some guy starts asking them what happened way back then. You've got to expect that memories aren't going to be crystal clear, and that different people "filed away" different things that were more important to them.
The bottom line is that the stories that come out now sometimes seem to have minor conflicts. Then you have to factor in that I'm not a real historian, more like a pseudo historian. Among friends (we are friends, aren't we?) I've always pronounced "pseudo" as "pus-way-dough", mostly to make it clear that I'm not the real thing. I'm trying to make a seamless story out of many old stories, but there are going to be mistakes.
In a way, that's the reason for this blog. It's a trial run. It's my daydream to complete "Eastside Village - The First Ten Years" by our October anniversary. This blog lets me put out what I think happened, and it's my hope that the folks who did all the work over the years will speak up and say, "Wait a minute! That's not how I remember it!" If you're one of those people, I'm hoping you'll write to me at [email protected] to give me your version of the story. If you prefer, I'll buy you a cup of your favorite beverage and we can talk about it. We are all friends, aren't we?
Now back to the history of Eastside Village!
